Yogi Adityanath Flags Off 45 Electric Buses, Accelerates Uttar Pradesh’s Green Mobility Drive
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flags off 45 electric buses to boost green mobility and last-mile connectivity. The initiative includes routes across Noida, Greater Noida, and Jewar Airport, with plans for 110 buses by June 15, new charging infrastructure, and enhanced EV manufacturing support in the state.
The newly introduced electric buses will operate on routes connecting Lucknow with Jewar Airport in Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority regions in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. Alongside the flag-off ceremony, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Noida Electric Bus Depot, marking a significant expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure in the region.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister stated that the electric bus network will significantly improve last-mile connectivity. He further announced that the state government is targeting the deployment of 110 electric buses by June 15 to enhance passenger travel convenience across Uttar Pradesh. Of the total proposed fleet, 10 buses will be double-decker units designed to accommodate higher passenger volumes.
Reinforcing the state’s commitment to electric mobility, the Chief Minister highlighted that two electric bus manufacturing facilities operated by Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland have already been established in Uttar Pradesh, strengthening the state’s position as an emerging hub for electric vehicle production.
According to officials, the electric buses will operate on four key routes within Noida, including Botanical Garden to Greater Noida West, Noida International Airport, Surajpur Collectorate, and New Bus Terminal in Ghaziabad. To support the new fleet, 30 charging points have been installed at the Noida depot, ensuring efficient operations and reduced downtime.
Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament Mahesh Sharma from Gautam Buddha Nagar praised the initiative, stating that the transition to electric buses has come at an opportune time and will deliver substantial environmental benefits amid the prevailing geopolitical situation.
Addressing concerns regarding traffic congestion in Noida, particularly near the Mahamaya flyover, Sharma noted that the issue has been acknowledged and efforts are underway to remove bottlenecks to ensure smoother connectivity to the airport and surrounding areas.
Officials maintain that the initiative is part of a broader green mobility strategy aimed at reducing fuel dependency, lowering carbon emissions, and making public transportation more affordable and efficient across the state.
The launch of the electric bus fleet, coupled with expanding infrastructure and manufacturing capacity, signals a decisive shift in Uttar Pradesh’s transportation landscape towards cleaner and more sustainable urban mobility solutions.
